Question

In the following questions, two statements (i) and (ii) are given. Choose the valid statement.

  1. Area of a parallelogram = base × corresponding height.
  2. Each of equal sides of an isosceles triangle is 5 cm and base is 8 cm. Its area will be 12 cm2.

Options

  • Only (i)

  • Only (ii)

  • Both (i) and (ii)

  • Neither (i) nor (ii)

Solution

Both (i) and (ii)

Explanation:

(i) True: The area of a parallelogram equals its base times the corresponding height.

(ii) True: For an isosceles triangle with equal sides 5 cm and base 8 cm.

The altitude = `sqrt(5^2 - 4^2)`

= `sqrt(25 - 16)`

= 3 cm

So, Area = `1/2` × Base × Height

= `1/2 xx 8 xx 3`

= 12 cm2
