Solution

Given:

DE = 1.5 m, CD = 30 m.

The slanted line EA makes a 45° angle with the horizontal at E, so slope = tan 45° = 1.

Points: take D = (0, 0), C = (30, 0), E = (0,1.5). AC is the vertical from C up to A.

Step-wise calculation:

1. Because tan 45° = 1, the rise from E to A equals the run from E to A.

2. Run from E to A = xA – xE

= 30 – 0

= 30

3. Rise from E to A = 30.

So, yA = yE + 30

= 1.5 + 30

= 31.5

4. AC is the vertical distance from C (y = 0) to A (y = 31.5), so AC = 31.5 m.
