As a trader in the busy port city of Surat, I witness scenes of great activity and prosperity every day. Ships arrive from distant places such as Persia, Arabia, and Central Asia, carrying goods like silk, horses, and metals. In return, we export Indian cotton textiles, spices, jewellery, and products made by local craftsmen. The port remains crowded with workers loading and unloading goods, while the nearby markets are full of merchants, traders, and customers.

Trade is made smoother by the hundi system, allowing money to be transferred safely without carrying coins across borders. Many foreign merchants have even settled here, adding to the diversity and liveliness of the city. The temples around not only serve religious purposes but also support trade by offering credit and building public facilities. Despite political changes in the region, the economy of Surat remains vibrant and full of opportunity.
