Anish: Hello, Omkar!
Omkar: Hello, Anish! It is so nice to see you after such a long time.
Anish: Yes, many years have passed since we last met. It is good to see you too. How have you been?
Omkar: I've been doing well. After high school, I started assisting my father on the farm. Farming is my occupation now.
Anish: I'm glad to hear that. You know, Omkar, I see a lot of changes in the village. A big concrete building stands in the place of our old school.
Omkar: Yes, a lot of developmental projects have been carried out here.
Anish: I see. That is why the greenery has reduced. I can't spot any of the trees that we used to climb as children.
Omkar: Yes, those trees were cut down to make a place for a few factories.
Anish: I don't think it's right to cut down trees to build factories that would cause pollution.
Omkar: You are right. But a lot of things have changed in the past few years. The muddy and twisted paths have been replaced with roads made of tar, the two huge grounds in the village are now factory sites. The marketplace has also changed. It is now an endless row of shops as opposed to the cluster of carts that it used to be.
Anish: Wow! That is why it seems as if I've come to a completely different place. Do you remember how we used to chase each other all around the village?
Omkar: Hahaha! Yes, but that is history now. The increasing traffic on these new roads does not allow for a person to walk freely anymore. However, I do miss those days. We could roam around freely, without having to be on the lookout for vehicles speeding down the road.
Anish: I agree. Also, is there a college in the village now?
Omkar: Yes, and there is a good primary healthcare centre with qualified doctors and nurses.
Anish: That's very nice.
Omkar: Although a lot of these changes are good for us, I don't like the way they have altered our life.
Anish: I think so too. The village does not look like a village anymore. The extensive fields, the greenery, the humble houses - they are all gone! Everything seems dull and grey now, just like an urban city.
Omkar: Yes, even I miss the lush green fields and the open spaces. It appears as though this development has taken the life out of our village.
Anish: I wish we could go back to the good old days and enjoy them again.
Omkar: Well, that's one dream that will never come true. But at least we had the opportunity to experience the scenic beauties of this place, long before it was modernised.
Anish: I completely agree. We still have memories of those bygone decades. I should get going now. Bye!
Omkar: Bye!

"May I come in?" asked the pink lady.
"Please come in," said my mother. "Do sit down. Do
you require a room'?"
"Not today, thank you. I'm staying with Padre Dutt.
He insisted on putting me up. But I may want a room for a day or two -.lust for old time's sake."
"You've stayed here before."
"A long time ago. I'm Mrs Green, you know. The missing Mrs Green. The one for whom you put up that handsome tombstone in the cemetery. I was very touched by it. And I'm glad you didn't add 'Beloved Wife of Henry t'reen', because I didn't love him any more than he loved me."
"Then - then you aren't the skeleton?" stammered my mother.
"Do I look like a skeleton?"
"No!" we said together ..
"But we heard you disappeared." I said, "and when we found
that skeleton"
"You put two and two together."
"Well, it was Miss Kellner who convinced us," said my mother. "And you did disappear mysteriously. You were missing for years. And everyone knew Mr Green was a philanderer"
"Couldn't wait to get away from him," said the pink lady. "Couldn't stand him anymore. Ile was a lady-killer, but not a real killer.'
"But your father came looking for you. Didn't you get in touch with him'"'
"My father and I were never very close. Mother died when I was very young, and the only relative I had was a cousin in West Africa. So that's where I went- Sierra Leone!"
"How romantic!" said my mother.

Read the following extract and convert it into a dialogue between Herman and Roma in about 120 words :
[You may begin with : Herman : You inust have suffered too, fear a constant companion ....... ]

I imagined how she must have suffered too, fear, a constant
companion. And yet here we were both survivors, in a new world.
''There was a camp next to the farm.'' Roma continued, ''I
saw a boy there and I would throw him apples everyday.'
What an amazing coincidence that she had helped some
other boy. ''What did he look like'?'' I asked.
''He was tall, skinny, and hungry. I must have seen him every
day for six months.''
My heart was racing. I couldn't believe it. '"This couldn't be.
''Did he tell you one day not to come back because he was leaving Schlieben'?''I
Roma looked at me in amazement, ''Yes!'' .
''That was me!''
I was ready to burst with joy and awe, flooded with emotions.
I couldn't believe it! My angel.
''l'm not letting you go.'' I said to Roma. And in the back of
the car on that blind date, I proposed to her. I didn't want to wait.
''You're crazy!'' She said. But she invited me to meet her
parents for Shabbat dinner the following week. There was so much I looked forward to learning about Roma, but the most important things I always knew: her steadfastness, her goodness. For many months in the worst of circumstances, she had come to the fence and given me hope. Now that I'd found her again, I could never let her go.
That day, she said 'Yes'. And I kept my word. After nearly 50 years of marriage, two children and three grandchildren I have never let her go.

Read the following extract and convert it into a dialogue between Oliver and Rosalind in about 120 words:

[You may begin with: Oliver: I had searched for Orlando .....]

Oliver told them his story. He had searched for Orlando everywhere in the forest, he said, and at last, tired and hungry, he had fallen asleep under a tree. On his way from Rosalind’s cottage, Orlando had seen his brother lying asleep. A big snake had curled round Oliver’s neck and was just going to bite him when it saw. Orlando and slipped away into a bush. And then Orlando saw that a hungry lion was waiting under the same bush, ready to kill Oliver as soon as he woke up.

Orlando thought of all his brother’s unkindness to him in the past. Why should he risk his own life to save this brother who had always been cruel to him? Twice he turned away to leave Oliver, but he had a kind and noble heart and at last, decided that he could not leave his brother to die. So he fought the lion. The fierce animal tore and bit his arm, but he managed to kill it. Oliver wakened by the noise of the fight, saw that Orlando was risking his own life to save him. He was filled with shame at all his past unkindness to his young brother, and he begged Orlando to forgive him.

Orlando took his brother to the Duke, who gave him food and clothes. Orlando said nothing about the wound the lion had given him, but it had been bleeding all the time and suddenly he fell to the ground and fainted from loss of blood. As soon as he recovered consciousness, Orlando begged Oliver to go to Ganymede and Aliena. ‘Show them this blood-stained handkerchief,’ he said, ‘and explain to them why I have broken my promise to be with them at two o’clock’.

Read the following extract and convert it into a continuous write-up in about 120 words:

You may begin with : George flashed a pocket torch and saw the boys looking about….

(George flashes a pocket torch. The boys look about them but not so far up stage as to notice the white models, nor do they see the skull, towards which their backs are turned.)

Tom :  (crossing R. C.). This is a queer place. I wonder if there’s anybody in the house.

George : You’ve picked three empty houses already, and you let us sing the whole of While Shepherds Watched outside the last one before you found out your mistake.

Tom : Well, that’s better than what you did — you picked the house where they had that bulldog.

George : (contemptuously). I wasn’t afraid of the bulldog.

Tom : No, maybe you weren’t: but I’m not sure that the savage beast hasn’t torn off a bit of young Alfie’s suit, and if he has there won’t half be a row! (Alfie fidgets nervously at the mention of his damaged suit.)

Tom : (down R.C.). How much money have we collected?

Ginger : (crossing C. to George). Let’s have a look under the light. (After counting coppers, with the aid of George’s torch.) Eightpence halfpenny.

Tom : (in a tone of disgust). Only eightpence halfpenny — between four of us —after yelling our heads off all the evening! Crikey! Money’s a bit tight round these parts, isn’t it?

George : I told you it was too early for carol-singing. It’s too soon after Guy Fawkes’ day.

(Faint distant scream off R.)

Tom : (startled). What was that?

George: What was what?
Tom : That noise — it sounded like a scream.

George: Nonsense.

Alfie :   (L). Let’s go home.
