If x : y = 4 : 7, find the value of (3x + 2y) : (5x + y).
Advertisements
Solution
Given, x : y = 4 : 7
`=> x/y = 4/7`
`(3x + 2y)/(5x + y) = (3(x/y) + 2)/(5(x/y) + 1)` ...(Dividing each term by y)
= `(3(4/7) + 2)/(5(4/7) + 1)`
= `(12/7 + 2)/(20/7 +1)`
= `(12 + 14)/(20 + 7)`
= `26/27`
