Thus,
`4^2=x^2+1/x^2+2` ...`[Using (x+1/x)^2=x^2+1/x^2+2]`
16 = `x^2+1/x^2+2`
∴ `x^2+1/x^2` = 16 − (+2)
∴ `x^2+1/x^2` = 14
