  1. The Potsdam Conference showed that relations between the Allies had cooled down.
  2. When Truman took over for Roosevelt and Attlee for Churchill, there was a change in leadership that made things tougher with Stalin.
  3. The Allies didn’t agree on how to get Germany to pay compensation. The US wanted to avoid the mistakes made in the Treaty of Versailles, while the Soviet Union wanted to hurt Germany. Eastern Europe, especially Poland, was also a source of stress. 
  4. Stalin had set up a pro-communist government there, despite promises of free elections in the past. These differences reflected the growing mistrust that would lead to the Cold War.
