Sources of Himesh’s prejudice:
- Learning: He has picked up negative stereotypes from family, peers or media.
- Ingroup bias/strong social identity: To favour his own group, he looks down on the outgroup.
- Kernel of truth: He overgeneralises a few experiences with some outgroup members to the whole group.
- Self-fulfilling prophecy: His biased expectations make him treat them negatively, and their defensive reactions then seem to “prove” his stereotype.
