Question

Taming Peace

Have you heard of ‘peacekeeping force’? Do you think this is paradoxical term?

Answer 1

“Peacekeeping force” is a deeply paradoxical term because it attempts to achieve a state of non-violence using the very machinery of violence and warfare. The cartoon, titled “Taming Peace,” illustrates this irony by showing a fully armed soldier riding and controlling a dove, which is a universal symbol of peace. This contrast highlights the conceptual contradiction where military power and armed personnel are deployed to establish harmony. Ultimately, it underscores the textbook’s theme that international peace processes are frequently managed and dictated through the strategic threat of coercive force.
