2. It is a series of cyclic chain reactions that begin with acetyl-CoA reacting with oxaloacetic acid.
3. Acetyl-CoA (2-carbon compound) enters the mitochondria to combine with oxaloacetic acid (4-carbon compound) and form a six-carbon compound, i.e., citric acid.
4. The first compound formed in this cycle is citric acid; therefore, the Krebs cycle is also called the citric acid cycle.
