Solution
- Knock-knee (Genu valgum) is a postural deformity in which the knees come closer together or touch each other while the feet and ankles remain apart when a person stands. The distance between the two ankle bones indicates the severity of the deformity.
- It generally develops around the age of 2 years, and the knees usually begin to straighten by 5-6 years. Major causes include rickets, deficiency of vitamin D and calcium, obesity, prolonged standing, illness and brain damage.
- If the condition is severe and does not correct naturally, it may affect the person's normal forward movement and gait, making walking appear awkward. Severe cases may require braces or medical treatment, while surgery may be needed in extreme cases. Knock-knees may also lead to flat feet.
