Solution
Black soil does not get leached because it has a very high clay content and excellent moisture‑retaining capacity; when wet, it becomes sticky and impermeable, so rainwater does not easily percolate and wash away soluble minerals. This soil is formed in situ from weathered lava (basalt) and commonly contains about 50 per cent clay along with lime and potash, so its fine, compact texture and chemical composition together limit leaching.
