Question

From the equations given below, what is the relation between h1, h2, u and v?

`"Magnification" = "Height of the Image"/"Height of the object"   "i.e. M" = (h_2)/(h_1)`

`"Magnification" = "Distance of the Image"/"Distance of the object"   "i.e. M" = v/u`

Solution

From the given equations:

`M = (h_2)/(h_1)`

and

`M = v/u`

Since both expressions are equal to magnification,

`(h_2)/(h_1) = v/u`

or equivalently,

`(h_2)/(h_1) = v/u`
