Question
Find the value of the letters in the following:
2 L M
+ L M 1
M 1 8
Advertisements
Solution
2 L M
We have, + L M 1
M 1 8
In first column, M + 1 = 8
Clearly, M = 7
In second column, L + M = 1
⇒ L + 7 = 1
∴ The value of L can be 4.
In third column, 2 + L + 1 = M
⇒ 2 + 4 + 1 = 7
⇒ 7 = 7, so the third column is satisfied for L = 4, M = 7
Hence, L = 4 and M = 7
