Question
Find the quotient and remainder for the following using synthetic division:
(x3 + x2 – 7x – 3) ÷ (x – 3)
Advertisements
Solution
p(x) = x3 + x2 – 7x – 3
d(x) = x – 3 ...[p(x) = d(x) × q(x) + r]
x – 3 = 0
x = 3
Hence the quotient = x2 + 4x + 5
Remainder = 12
