Question
Find the quotient and remainder for the following using synthetic division:
(3x3 – 2x2 + 7x – 5) ÷ (x + 3)

Solution
p(x) = 3x3 – 2x2 + 7x – 5
d(x) = x + 3
x + 3 = 0
x = – 3
The quotient = 3x2 – 11x + 40
Remainder = – 125
