Solution

The mean proportion between two numbers $$a$$ and $$b$$ is given by $$\sqrt{ab}$$.

$$\sqrt{28 \times 63} = \sqrt{(4 \times 7) \times (9 \times 7)}$$

$$= \sqrt{4 \times 9 \times 49}$$

$$= 2 \times 3 \times 7$$

$$ = 42$$
