Find out the following in the electric circuit given in the figure:

  1. Effective resistance of two 8 ohm resistors in the combination.
  2. Current flowing through the 4-ohm resistor.

Solution

i. Since the two 8 Ω resistors are connected in parallel, the equivalent resistance is:

`1/R = 1/8 + 1/8`

= `2/8`

= `1/4`

R = 4 ohm

ii. Total resistance in circuit,

Rtotal = 4 + 4 = 8 Ω

Using Ohm’s Law,

I = `V/R`

= `8/8`

= 1 A

Therefore, the current through the 4 Ω resistor is 1 A.
