Question
Factorise the following expression.
4x2 − 25y2
Advertisements
Solution
4x2 − 25y2
Let us recognize it as the difference of the squares of a and b.
a = 4x2 = (2x)2
b = 25y2 = (5y)2
∴ a2 − b2 = (a + b) (a − b)
∴ (2x)2 − (5y)2 = (2x + 5y) (2x − 5y)
