Factorise the following:

49(2x + y)2 – 64(x – 2y)2

Solution

Given, 49(2x + y)2 – 64(x – 2y)2

⇒ [7(2x + y)]2 – [8(x – 2y)]2

We know that,

(a + b) (a – b) = a2 – b2

Hence, 

⇒ [7(2x + y) + 8(x – 2y)] [7(2x  + y) – 8(x – 2y)]

⇒ [14x + 7y + 8x – 16y] [14x + 7y – 8x + 16y]

⇒ [22x – 9y] [6x + 23y]
