Given: 3x + 7y = 12

Step-wise calculation:

1. Subtract 7y from both sides:

3x = 12 – 7y

2. Divide both sides by 3:

`x = (12 - 7y)/3`

Or equivalently `x = 4 - (7/3)y`

⇒ `x = (12 − 7y)/3`
