Solution

  1. In vaccination, a small amount of vaccine i.e. killed/inactivated form of pathogens (antigen) is introduced into the body to induce an immune response against a specific pathogen or disease. e.g. Polio vaccine, hepatitis vaccine, etc.
  2. Vaccines produced by biotechnology are comparatively safer than using completely or partially killed pathogens as vaccines.
  3. These vaccines are more thermo-stable.
  4. Vaccines produced by biotechnology remain active for longer periods in the body.
  5. Edible vaccines are being produced using biotechnology. e.g. Transgenic potatoes provide immunity against cholera and diseases caused by Escherichia coli.
