Wasting is a condition in which a child has a very low weight compared to their height due to recent and severe undernutrition. It occurs because of inadequate food intake, illness, infections or poor feeding practices. Wasting leads to weakness, poor immunity and increased risk of diseases. It can be prevented by providing a balanced diet, proper healthcare and timely treatment of infections.
