IDD (Iodine Deficiency Disorders) are health problems caused by a lack of iodine in the diet. Iodine is essential for the production of thyroid hormones, which are important for growth and development. IDD can cause disorders like goitre, mental retardation, impaired growth and learning difficulties. It can be prevented by consuming iodised salt and adequate iodine-rich foods.
