Solution 1

  1. The polymers which have two or more types of repeating units are called copolymers.
  2. They are formed by the polymerisation of two or more different types of monomers in the presence of each other.
  3. The different monomer units are randomly sequenced in the copolymer.

Example: Buna-S, Buna-N

Solution 2

  1. When two or more different types of monomers undergo polymerisation, the process is called copolymerisation, and the polymer thus formed is called a copolymer.
  2. Each monomer used in the same chain is present in many units that make up the copolymer.
  3. Its composition is determined by the reactivity of the monomers as well as their proportion.
  4. Compared to homopolymers made from each of the combining monomers, copolymers have very distinct properties. These polymers include styrene-butadiene rubber, styrene methylmethacrylate, and others.
