Solution
High yielding variety (HYV) seeds refer to those seeds that yield significantly larger crop outputs, especially for crops like wheat and rice. To optimize the use of these seeds, consistent irrigation, optimal application of fertilizers, and precise use of pesticides are essential. Because HYV seeds have a shorter growth cycle, farmers can practice multiple cropping within a year.
The government supports the use of HYV seeds by providing incentives such as discounts on seeds purchased from government sources and subsidies on every tonne of crop harvested. Additionally, government agricultural research institutions and universities are actively working to develop HYV seeds that are well-suited to Indian agricultural conditions.
