Solution
Hormonal control in males:
- At puberty, the hypothalamus releases GnRH, which stimulates the anterior pituitary to secrete FSH and LH (also called ICSH in males).
- LH/ICSH acts on Leydig cells, stimulating testosterone secretion. Testosterone supports spermatogenesis and the development and functioning of male reproductive organs and secondary sex characteristics.
- FSH acts on Sertoli cells, which support and nourish developing germ cells and promote sperm development. Sertoli cells also secrete inhibin, which suppresses FSH release. Testosterone exerts negative feedback on the hypothalamus and pituitary.
