Molasses is the thick, dark brown, viscous syrup that is left after the crystallisation and extraction of sugar from sugarcane or sugar beet juice. It includes residual sugars, vitamins, and minerals that did not crystallise during the refining process. Molasses is a highly fermentable raw material used to distilll industrial alcohol, ethanol, and spirits such as rum, as well as a high-energy supplement in cattle feed and a sweetening compound in food manufacturing.
