A cross‑court shot is a stroke or attack played diagonally across the court from one end of the offensive side toward the opposite sideline of the opponent’s court intended to create a sharp angle, pull defenders wide, and open space for a winner; this is the standard definition used in volleyball. In racket sports such as tennis the term is used similarly to mean a shot played diagonally across the court (as opposed to down the line).
