Art is a creative expression of human imagination, emotions, experiences, and knowledge. It helps people convey ideas, beauty, and culture through different forms. Broadly, art is classified into two main types:

1. Visual Arts: These are arts that can be seen, such as painting, drawing, sculpture, and architecture. For example, the Ajanta paintings in Maharashtra are a famous form of visual art.
2. Performing Arts: These are arts that are performed in front of an audience, such as dance, music, drama, and theatre. They include folk arts like Koli dance and classical arts like Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and Odissi, as well as classical music (Hindustani and Carnatic).

Thus, art is not only a source of creativity and entertainment but also a medium to preserve cultural heritage and traditions.
