5. Forward-looking: Controlling is related to future because past cannot be controlled. It seeks to improve future results on the basis of experience gained in the past.
6. Action-oriented: Corrective action taken to close the performance gap between standards and actual performance is the essence of control. However, it should be highlighted that control only serves to monitor performance; it has no authority over individual rights.
7. Measurement: Controlling involves measurement of actual performance and its comparison with the standard or desired performance. It is a process of checking and verification.
