Solution
- After Sri Lanka became independent, the people who ran the government were mostly those who advocated the interests of the Sinhalese majority. They didn’t like that a lot of Tamils had moved from India to Sri Lanka and lived there.
- Militant nationalism grew because Tamil issues were ignored. The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a terrorist group, began attacking the Sri Lankan Army with weapons in 1983 and wanted “Tamil Eelam,” which means a separate country for Tamils and Sinhalese.
