Solution

  1. Statistical View: This view says that any behaviour that is very rare or different from the average is considered abnormal. For example, if most people are friendly and someone always avoids others, that might be seen as abnormal.
  2. Biological/Medical View: This approach believes that abnormal behaviour is caused by problems in the body, especially the brain. It may be due to genetics, brain injury, or chemical imbalances. For example, depression might be linked to low levels of certain brain chemicals.
  3. Psychodynamic View: Based on Freud’s theory, this view says that abnormal behaviour comes from unconscious conflicts, often from childhood. For example, anxiety might be caused by hidden fears that the person doesn’t fully understand.
  4. Behavioural View: This view sees abnormal behaviour as something learnt through experience. If someone has been rewarded for acting in a certain way (even if it’s bad), they may continue to do it.
  5. Cognitive View: According to this view, abnormal behaviour comes from faulty thinking. If someone always expects the worst, they may feel anxious or depressed.
  6. Socio-cultural View: This approach says that society and culture affect what is considered normal or abnormal. What seems abnormal in one culture might be normal in another. Also, problems like poverty or discrimination can lead to mental health issues.
  7. Diathesis-Stress Model: This model combines biology and environment. It says some people are born with a risk (diathesis) for mental illness, but it only shows up when they face stress in life.
