Solution
A sprain is an injury to a ligament caused by overstress, which damages or tears some or all of its fibres. It occurs when a joint is forced beyond its normal range of movement. It commonly affects the ankle, elbow, knee, wrist or shoulder. A sprain may occur while landing, falling or during activities such as jumping, push-ups, kicking, hitting or bowling. The severity of the sprain depends on the amount and duration of force applied to the ligament.
Examples: An ankle sprain may occur while landing after a jump, and a wrist sprain may occur while falling on the hand.
