Solution
Urine output is regulated mainly by the anti-diuretic hormone (ADH), released from the posterior pituitary when the body loses excess fluid. ADH increases water reabsorption by the renal tubules and collecting ducts, producing a smaller amount of concentrated urine. When ADH secretion decreases, less water is reabsorbed and more dilute urine is produced.
