Solution
A class of viruses known as nucleopolyhedroviruses (NPVs) infect insect pests, especially lepidopteran larvae. After the virus replicates inside the larvae's cells, it infects them and kills them. More viral particles are released into the environment by the infected larvae, infecting further larvae. Because it targets particular insect pests, such as the cotton bollworm, without harming other non-target organisms, NPV is utilised as a biocontrol agent. Because NPV is safe for the environment, it works well in organic farming.
