Solution 1
Development of different functional structures from a common ancestral form is called adaptive radiation.
Examples: Darwin finches, which are found on Galapagos Island, are an example of adaptive radiation. Galapagos Island is home to a wide diversity of finches that originated from a single species that stumbled upon upon the island. Many new species have developed, split off, and adapted to live in different environments as a result. To fit their feeding preferences, these finches have evolved distinct eating patterns and beak styles. A single seed-eating finch progenitor gave rise to insectivorous, blood-sucking, and other finch species with diverse nutritional preferences.
Solution 2
The process of evolution that starts from a single point and radiates in different directions is called adaptive radiation.
Example: Australian marsupials have evolved from a single ancestor and placental mammals exhibit similarities with their corresponding marsupials such as placental wolves and Tasmanian wolves.
