Solution

Using the identity:

(a − b)3 = a3 − 3ab(a − b) − b3

Here, let a = 2a, b = 7b

(2a − 7b)3 = (2a)3 − 3(2a) (7b) (2a − 7b) − (7b)3

= 8a3 − 3(14ab) (2a − 7b) − 343b3

= 8a3 − 42ab(2a − 7b) − 343b3

∴ (2a − 7b)3 = 8a3 − 84a2b + 294ab2 − 343b3
