1. Bulb in the OFF Position (Circuit Open):

  • Switch Positions: Switch S1 is connected to terminal a (upward), and switch S2 is connected to terminal c (downward).
  • Working: The electrical path between the two switches is broken. Since the circuit is open, no current flows, and the bulb remains OFF.

2. Bulb ON Through Switch S1 (Circuit Closed):

  • Switch Positions: A person at the bottom flips switch S1 downward to connect with terminal c. Switch S2 remains connected to terminal c.
  • Working: This creates a continuous, unbroken path along the bottom wire connecting terminal c of S1 to terminal c of S2. The circuit closes, current flows, and the bulb turns ON.

3. Bulb ON Through Switch S2 (Circuit Closed):

  • Switch Positions: Alternatively, if switch S1 is connected upward to terminal a, a person at the top can flip switch S2 upward to connect with terminal a.
  • Working: This establishes a complete electrical path along the top wire connecting terminal a of S1 to terminal a of S2. The circuit closes, allowing current to flow, and the bulb turns ON.
