Solution

Given: R.F. = `1/1000`

1 cm on the map = 1000 cm = 10 metres on the ground.

We need to represent 70 metres on the scale.

Since 1 cm = 10 m,

Length of scale = `70/10` = 7 cm

Drawing the scale:

Draw a 7 cm long line on your paper.

Divide it into 7 equal parts (each 1 cm).

Each main division represents 10 metres.

Divide the first division (leftmost) into 10 equal parts of 1 metre each.

Labelling:

To the right of zero: 0, 10, 20, ..., up to 70 metres

To the left of zero: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 metres (descending)
