Solution

I sympathise with Rakesh because his actions arise from genuine devotion, yet his father comes to see him as cruel and controlling. Rakesh has worked hard, returned home after studying in the USA and built a successful career. He continues to care for his father by bringing him tea, reading the news, arranging his evenings outdoors and monitoring his health. His restrictions on rich food and sweets appear to come from a doctor’s concern about the risks to an elderly patient.

However, devotion alone does not guarantee that care will feel loving to the person receiving it. Varma longs for familiar pleasures and wants some say in his own daily life. Rakesh’s firm rules leave little room for conversation or compromise; even his repeated insistence that his father be sensible makes Varma feel powerless. As a result, Varma rejects the medicines and interprets his son’s care as tyranny. This misunderstanding is painful for Rakesh, who seems to receive resentment rather than gratitude. I sympathise with him, but I also believe he could have shown more tenderness and listened more closely to his father’s feelings.
