  1. Israel officially recognised the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) as a representative of the Palestinian people.
  2. In return, the PLO recognised Israel’s right to exist and agreed to renounce terrorism and violence.
  3. As part of the agreement, Palestinians were to be granted limited self-government in certain areas, which specifically are Jericho in the West Bank and parts of the Gaza Strip. Israel had occupied these regions since the 1967 war.
  4. Israeli troops were to withdraw from these areas, allowing the Palestinians to manage their own local affairs under a new form of limited self-rule.
