Solution
When an excess of Sodium Hydroxide solution is applied, Zinc nitrate first produces a gelatinous white precipitate that dissolves in excess, resulting in a clear solution. Conversely, with Calcium nitrate solution, a white precipitate of calcium hydroxide is generated, which is only sparingly soluble in excess.
