Location Found mainly in the Lower Ganga Plains (Eastern part: West Bengal and Bangladesh). Found mainly in the Upper Ganga Plains (Western Uttar Pradesh).
Nature of Soil Composed of clay and silt; older alluvium, often hardened by iron content. Formed by wind-blown sand (aeolian deposits); dry and less fertile.
Formation Process Formed by deposition of older alluvium and later uplifted. Formed by wind action, resulting in sandy ridges along the rivers.
Fertility Less fertile compared to newer alluvium (Khadar). Less fertile, often with sandy soils unsuitable for cultivation.
Associated Region Eastern part of the plain (Barind Tract in Bengal). Western part of the plain (Bhur Tract in Uttar Pradesh).
