Solution

Industries are less developed in Central Australia because of the following factors:

  1. Dry and desert climate: Much of Central Australia is arid and receives very little rainfall.
  2. Scarcity of water: Industries require a regular water supply, which is limited in this region.
  3. Low population density: There is a small local market and limited availability of labour.
  4. Poor transport connectivity: Long distances and sparse settlements make transport and communication difficult and costly.
  5. Harsh physical conditions: High temperatures and desert conditions make industrial development difficult.
  6. Distance from major cities and ports: Most large markets, ports and industrial centres are located near the coasts.

Therefore, industrial development is concentrated more in the coastal regions of Australia than in the central part.
