Solution

Given: Type of unit cell is fcc.

Edge length of unit cell (a) = 495 pm

To find: Radius (r) of Cu atom = ?

Formula: For fcc unit cell, r = 0.3535 a

Calculation: Using the formula,

r = 0.3535 a

= 0.3535 × 495 pm

= 175 pm

∴ The radius (r) of a Cu atom is 175 pm.
