Solution

Given:

  • AB = 3 cm
  • BC = 5 cm
  • CD = 4 cm
  • AC = 6.8 cm
  • BD = 4 cm

Steps of construction:

  1. Draw the diagonal AC = 6.8 cm.
  2. With A as center and radius AB = 3 cm, draw an arc.
  3. With C as center and radius BC = 5 cm, draw another arc intersecting the previous arc. Mark the point of intersection as B.
  4. With B as center and radius BD = 4 cm, draw an arc.
  5. With C as center and radius CD = 4 cm, draw another arc intersecting the previous arc. Mark the point of intersection as D.
  6. Join AB, BC, CD and DA.

The quadrilateral ABCD with sides AB = 3 cm, BC = 5 cm, CD = 4 cm and diagonals AC = 6.8 cm, BD = 4 cm is constructed as required.
