Solution

Count de Lorge is brave, courageous, and self-respecting. He risks his life to prove his courage but refuses to accept his beloved's selfish and vain behaviour. His beloved is very beautiful but also proud and attention-seeking. She tests De Lorge's love by making him face great danger, without thinking about his safety. Through these two characters, the poet shows the difference between true love and vanity.
