Question
Calculate the frequency of yellow light of wavelength 550 nm. The speed of light is 3 × 108 m/s-1.

Solution
Given, wavelength λ = 550 nm = 550 × `10^-9` m
Speed of light, c = 3 × `10^8` m/s
We know that,
Frequency =`("speed of light")/("wave length")`
Or, frequency =`(3 × 10^8)/(550 ×10^(-9))`
= `(3 xx 10^(8 + 8))/55`
= `(3 xx 10^16)/55`
= `(300 xx 10^14)/55`
= `60/100 xx 10^14`
= 5.4 × 1014 HZ
