- Where they live: Scorpions are generally found in deserts, semi-arid regions, under logs, rocks, boards and clutter. The Bark Scorpion lives on vertical surfaces such as tree bark, walls, or bushes.
- Their appearance: Scorpions have eight legs, two pedipalps, and a tail with a venom-injecting barb. Scorpions have two venom glands that produce venom used for hunting and self-defence. Scorpions do not have bones; instead, they have an exoskeleton made of chitin, which is similar to the shell of a shrimp.
- How they attack: Scorpions stay motionless beneath stones, wood, bark, and other objects on the ground that allow them to conceal themselves until the prey is close enough to be caught quickly. They can also oriefly chase down a detected victim and attack at the right moment. Scorpions do not go out looking for · food; their success depends on waiting. They do not have excellent vision, but through their sensory hair, they can know what kind of animal is approaching and how far it is from them.
- More information about scorpions: Scorpions have unbelievable survival skills. Researchers have frozen scorpions overnight and then left them out in the sun, only to see them thaw and crawl away. They can live in the worst environments. A scorpion’s survival is challenged in the absence of soil. Since they are burrowing animals, the life of a scorpion is endangered in case there is frost or dense grass on the ground, and the scorpion’s access to soil is cut off.
